State of the Art challenged internationally recognized artist Patrick Shearn to take inspiration from Portugal’s history and create a kinetic art installation for Freeport Lisboa Fashion Outlet.
Shearn is world renowned for his striking, larger-than-life, moving sculptures, called Skynets. Being the first kinetic art installation of this series on the Iberian Peninsula – “School of Breeze” – was designed to evoke the movements of nature, such as the fish shoals of the Atlantic Ocean.
Spanning 171 meters in length and suspended from 3.5 meters to 15 meters high, the Skynet transforms into a unique ballet of kaleidoscopic reflections, offering a unique sensory experience to those who visit the center. The Skynet is comprised of approximately 3100 linear meters of rope and 50,000 holographic Mylar streamers, which refract a stunning full spectrum of color.
As the largest of the artist’s series of kinetic sculptures to be exhibited in Europe, the artwork provided an unprecedented experience of originality and contemporary art innovation to visitors.
